Love for Christ changes everything!

Here are some thoughts that I shared at our Bible Study last night at church.  I wanted to put them online in order to be a blessing to you.

Love for Christ changes everything!

  • God showed us love through the cross
    • 1 John 4:9 – 11 (NLT) 9God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.  10This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.  11Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.
  • The love of Christ must be reciprocated… – see v. 11 above
    • back to Christ
      • 1 John 4:19 (KJV) We love him, because he first loved us.
    • to the church
      • 1 John 4:11 (NLT) Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.
  • Our love for Christ is shown through…
    • our increasing love for & obedience to God’s Word.
      • 1 John 2:5 (NLT) … those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him…
    • our decreasing love for other things
      • 1 John 2:15 – 17 (NLT) 15Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.  16For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.  17And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
    • in our concern for the lost
      • Jude 1:22 – 23 (NLT) 22And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.  23Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.

Love for Christ changes everything!

  • If we love Jesus,
    • we will love the church
    • we will love, read, & obey the Word
    • we will love the things of the world less
    • we will be concerned for the lost
  • If we don’t…
    • love the church
    • love, read, & obey the Word
    • love the things of the world less
    • have concern for the lost
      • then, we don’t have a “I need to love the church more” problem
      • or a “I need to love the Bible more” problem
      • or a “I should love the world less” problem
      • or a “I should care about the lost more” problem
        • we have a “I don’t love Jesus enough” problem!

If you find that you are lacking in these areas, I don’t want you to beat yourself up to try to “get better” at doing this Christian stuff.  I want you to simply fall in love with Jesus.

In Revelations 2:1-7, we find that the church in Ephesus had a serious problem.  Were they bad at ‘doing ministry?’  No, they were pretty good at doing stuff!  Their problem was that they didn’t love Jesus anymore.  They focused more on the ‘doing’ than on the ‘being.’

I want to encourage you to spend time with Jesus by regularly attending church & sitting under a pastor’s preaching of the Word of God, getting into the Bible at home, & spending time with Jesus in prayer.  Do these things with a prayerful heart, saying “Jesus, I want to hear you…  I want to live for you… I want to glorify you… help me to reflect the love you have for me…”

It is my prayer that you will “love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind” (Luke 10:27a NLT)

Don’t allow the things of this world to keep you from Him.

I leave you with this awesome verse that speaks of a vibrant relationship with Jesus:

1 John 2:28 (NLT) And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.

May the Lord bless you this day,

– Pastor

This passage-speaks the truth!! I was so lost spiritually, before coming to Solid Rock, -and having “my eyes opened” to how easy it is to live by God’s word and that all you had to do, was ask to be forgiven and confess Jesus as your Lord and savior(Which he truly is!!) and that know matter what you had done wrong in your past or how you had previously lived or how- messed up your views were on any subject / that through his Grace that you would be forgiven [no questions asked, no waiting period,no speech’s given] Considering all that God has done for us, all that he has given us, and the opportunities that lay before us- such as eternal life and overcoming death and sickness, and being able to live with God, himself, forever in paradise for all eternity…

    – how little does he ask of us?
after all that he has given and will continue to provide for …
    – how hard is it ,for us to live by his word- rather than that of our own?
