Is Jesus really coming back?

Jesus is coming back – but no one knows when.  The Bible says his return will be like a ‘thief in the night.’  (see 1 Thess. 5:1-11)  and take a moment to read Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:36-44.

Here is an article that was written by someone who closely examined Harold Camping’s absurd calculations.    (Click here to attempt to understand the logic).

  • He’s the guy who has the billboards up everywhere.
  • (By the way, Harold Camping also predicted Jesus’ return in 1994.  He was wrong about that one, huh?)

My point is, Jesus can come back today, next Sunday, or 100 years from now.  I saw a bumper sticker that said “Jesus is coming back: look busy.”  I know it was supposed to be funny, but I think that we should always live with that expectation.

I’ll always remember hearing a pastor say that we need to live as if Jesus…

  • died on the cross yesterday
  • rose this morning
  • is coming back tomorrow

If we lived with a focus like that, I think we’ll be ok.

Have a blessed day.

Some Thoughts Concerning Spiritual Gifts & Prophecy

Two Sundays ago, we were blessed by a special moving of the Lord through the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  As a church, we thoroughly believe that God still speaks to His church today.  We know that the Lord is ‘the same yesterday, today, and forever’ (Hebrews 13:8 NLT).  It only makes sense that the Lord would still speak to His church through the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

worshiping_man.smallIn order to familiarize everyone with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and their function, I want to share some thoughts with you.  My focus for this writing will be specifically the spiritual gift of prophecy, through which we witnessed the Holy Spirit working last Sunday.  My purpose is threefold:

  • to share with you some ‘behind the scenes’ thoughts from Sunday,
  • to help you develop a Biblical theology of the gifts of the Spirit,
  • and to encourage you to seek the Lord for more of His presence in your life.
